The article "Maximizing student satisfaction in education: Instagram’s role in motivation, communication, and participation" explores the integration of Instagram in higher education, particularly its use of short videos to teach economic concepts. Through an empirical study of 338 Business Administration students, the research applies the Motivation-Opportunity-Ability (MOA) theory to analyze how Instagram usage impacts communication, participation, and motivation. Findings reveal that Instagram can enhance student engagement, making learning more interactive and enjoyable, which in turn leads to higher satisfaction. The study offers a theoretical model that links these factors, contributing to the broader literature on how social media can be an effective educational tool.
The article clearly explains its methodology, including the use of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and other techniques, which I plan to explore further as it was my first exposure to many of the terms/techniques discussed. The large sample size (338 students) strengthens the statistical validity, while the clear presentation of the research model and hypotheses enhances readability. By adopting standardized scales from existing literature, the study ensures reliable measurements, and the inclusion of the MOA theory solidifies its conceptual foundation. However, the focus on business students may limit generalizability across other fields.
This article aligns with my research interests in exploring practical teaching methods that responsibly integrate technology to motivate learners. While the study offers valuable insights into how Instagram can enhance engagement, I remain skeptical of its long-term applicability. The reliance on trendy platforms raises concerns about the potential for these tools to become “fly-by-night” methods that may not stand the test of time. I have observed educational institutions adopting popular trends with the intent to innovate, only to lose focus on the original goals when scaling up. Without robust, long-term research on Instagram’s efficacy in helping learners retain and apply knowledge, there is a risk that it may serve as a temporary solution rather than addressing deeper, more systemic educational challenges.
