Annotation
The article “The Goals and Methods of Educational Technology Research over a Quarter Century (1989—2014)” examines educational technology research spanning 25 years. The authors reviewed articles published in the Educational Technology Research and Development journal and analyzed the goals and methods used in the research. By doing so, they identified key trends and shifts in the field over time.

The strengths of the article lie in its clear organization and layout, particularly the use of tables to present key concepts. These tables effectively summarized the main points, making them easy to reference and understand. They were well-distributed throughout the article, breaking up large blocks of text and improving the readability of the document as a whole. The authors also explained their methods in a step-by-step manner, which made it easy to follow their approach. The language used was straightforward and accessible, avoiding overly academic jargon, which contributed to the article’s clarity. Additionally, the authors provided valuable sections on implications and limitations for future research, offering suggestions for doctoral students to potentially build upon in follow-up studies.

Based on the previous paragraph, it is obvious of one benefit to my evolving research interests, it provided clarity on research methods and goals. Given I will eventually get write a dissertation, it helped me better understand what it is I will be doing. Additionally, I enjoyed the comment "so much educational technology research is focused on things that others create rather than the problems that should concern us as educators" as it spoke to my experiences. All to often, new ideas, toys, or concepts were pushed into my curriculum while adminstrators ignored the actual problems brought up by both students and instructors.
